Site Maintenance Instructions

This instructions are intended for the site administrators to develop this site maintaining the concept and design.

The project website should grow with the project. Therefore the structure is set to be enlarged.

About the structure:

You can see the structure on the navigation view in Front Page. From the homepage there are 5 first level chapters, each one with a starting page and subchapters.

The index on the left contains link to the first and second level pages. This index must be updated manually when adding a new page on this levels. Basically it should not be necessary to add other first level pages.

Updating

Since the project is going on, many of the published pages need to be updated. In the task view there is as to do list to keep the website up to date. Please refer to the task view and keep this list up to date.

Note the date of the last update when you (re-)publish a file.

Go through the site periodically and seek for old information. Ask the persons responsible for the single project parts to check the data and provide new information.

Check the Report View. There is a list of broken links and other useful troubleshooter.

How to create a new page

  • Start from the navigation view.
  • Choose the position of the new page in the structure and add a blank page
  • If the page is in the first or second level add a link to it in the index left. The title in the index correspond to the page title
  • Set the page background: right mouse click pointing on the new page--> page properties --> background --> select "get background information from another page --> click on Browse and select "index.htm"
  • Start the page on the second line by pressing Shift+Enter
  • The title is Bold 24pt (Size 6), press enter once after the title
  • All the pages with font "Bookman old style", normal size
  • All main links are
        - on a new line
        - size 4, bold
        - indented by 1 tab, introduced by ">" and 1 space:

            > Example

        - links within SDS domains are opened on the same page, links outside this domains are to be opened in a new page (domains southerndatastream.com, residuals.ws, intellitemps.net, pastures.org)
  • Links of secondary importance or within the text may be normal sized.
  • Subtitles within the page have size 4
  • Save the new page with the same file name as the title
  • Add a link to your new page on the upper level page
  • Be sure that the Navigation View is up to date
